For our second venture with Campbell, we went to the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival and Merritt Island. One use for our cruiser is a platform for making photographs while we travel. Merritt Island is an excellent place to test that before we make modifications.
We stayed one night at the TownPlace Suites. We spent most of our two days roaming our favorite back roads on Merritt Island and discovering the Blue Heron Wetlands.
Of course, the Land Cruiser had no trouble with the well-maintained sand roads, and the ride was much better than we were used to with our truck.
I carry two cameras to Merritt Island, one is hand-held, and I use it from the front seat. The other is on a gimbal, and I use it for telephoto shots.
In the truck, I put the hand-held either on the console or on the back seat. In Campbell, the console works when the going is smooth, and the second-row floor works best when the road is bumpy. The second-row is too far back to quickly reach a camera on the seat.
The split tailgate works wonderfully for the gimbal and tripod. It is easier to access than it was in our truck.
We will make sure that any modifications we make don’t hinder camera access on the second-row floor or tailgate.
